Operational Guidelines
A. General Guidelines
- Read All Posted Instructions and Ask The Staff For Guidance: Some machines are fitted with manufacturer instructions. Some machines (front-load washers) are operated by our staff only. Customers should follow instructions before use.
- Report Issues Promptly: If you notice any malfunctions, spillage, or unusual sounds, notify the staff immediately.
- Keep the Area Clean: Dispose of trash, avoid leaving personal items behind, and keep the floor around machines clear to reduce the risk of accidents.
- No Overloading: Overfilling machines can lead to poor washing or drying performance, damage the equipment, and may void any service guarantees.
- Separation of Laundry: Sort your laundry based on colors and fabric types to protect your garments and ensure optimal cleaning and drying.
B. Washing Machine Operational Guidelines
1. Preparation
- Inspect Your Laundry: Check all pockets and remove any objects that could damage the machine or your clothes.
- Separate Laundry: Divide items by color, fabric type, and soiling. Ask the staff for guidance on machine capacity.
2. Loading the Machine
- DO NOT OVERLOAD: Ensure the drum isn’t overfilled; it should have space to allow proper agitation. The staff may inspect the machine if overloading is suspected, and may stop the machine if it is overloaded. Ask the staff for guidance on machine capacity.
- Distribute Evenly: Place clothes evenly in the drum so the machine can operate efficiently.
- Choose a Cycle: Select the wash cycle that best fits your laundry type (eg. delicate, permanent press, heavy).
3. Detergents and Additives
- Use the Correct Amount: Overusing detergent can leave residue, and underusing may result in ineffective cleaning. Follow recommendations on detergent packaging.
- Select Suitable Additives: Use fabric softeners or bleach only if recommended for both your clothing and the machine’s cycle.
4. During the Operation:
- Start the Machine: Once loaded and settings are chosen, press the start button.
- Monitor Briefly: Periodically check that the machine is operating normally.
5. After Use:
- Remove Laundry Promptly: Avoid leaving laundry beyond the cycle time to prevent wrinkles and musty odors.
- Report Any Issues: Inform staff if the machine stops mid-cycle or seems to malfunction.
C. Dryer Operational Guidelines
1. Pre-Drying Steps
- Clean the Lint Filter: Before every use, remove any lint buildup from the dryer filter to improve efficiency, save energy, and lower fire risk.
- DO NOT OVERLOAD: Overloading can cause uneven drying, increased drying times, increased drying costs, and can damage the machine belts. Items should be loose in the dryer. The staff may inspect the machine if overloading is suspected, and may stop the machine if it is overloaded. Ask the staff for guidance on machine capacity.
- Check Care Labels: Verify that the garments are dryer-safe.
2. Operating the Dryer
- Select the Correct Setting: Choose the appropriate heat or cycle based on your fabric type. Many dryers have settings (eg. delicates, permanent press, regular).
- Set the Timer: Adjust the drying time according to the load size and the moisture content. Energy-saving models may have sensors that automatically end the cycle when clothes are dry.
- Start and Monitor: After starting the machine, listen for any irregular noises. Some machines have audible alerts to indicate cycle completion.
3. Post-Drying
- Check Results: Ensure your clothes are dry. If you need additional drying time, add a few more minutes.
- Clean Remaining Lint: Once drying is complete, double-check the lint filter and remove any new lint to maintain the dryer’s performance.
- Remove Clothes Promptly: Prompt collection helps prevent wrinkles and frees up the machine for other users.
D. Additional Safety Considerations
- Electrical Safety: Users are prohibited from altering or tampering with any machines or devices.
- Wet/Slippy Floors: As a result of spills and regular mopping, the flooring may be wet or slippery. Customers are expected to walk with care. There should be no running or horseplay in the laundromat.
- Emergency Procedures: In the case of an emergency, customers are expected to exit the laundromat by either of the two front doors, or alternatively by the rear door, and inform the staff or call local emergency services as necessary.
These operational guidelines - informed by industry practices and maintenance guides - are intended to ensure both equipment longevity and the best user experience, while maintaining optimal safety standards.
